Textile Wastewater Treatment

Any Textile manufacture different types textile products in their factory, the manufacturing process generates large quantity of wastewater. The water consumption had increased significantly due to increase in production capacity. Since treatment process involved lot of chemical treatment, disposal of chemical sludge was an issue. Water consumption had also significantly increased.

We designed and installed start-of-art treatment process for treating and recycling entire wastewater. Innovative treatment process was developed to avoid use of any chemicals in the treatment process. A scheme to use flue gas to neutralise pH from 11.5 to 7.0 in wastewater. This innovative process of use of flue gas has resulted in elimination of use of acid, chemicals and reduction in CO2 emission to atmosphere. After proper homogenisation, the effluent is fed to anoxic tank to remove ammonia followed by advanced membrane bio-reactor (MBR).

Our proposed Waste Water Solution for Textile Provides various benefits

  • Cost-effective due to less chemical
  • Ease-of-use as whole system is automated
  • Environmental friendly as less sludge bing generated
  • Long-lasting as most of the equipments are world renowned
  • Waste Water recycled for  Process and Cooling Tower use
  • Capable of being retrofitted to new or existing treatment plant

MBR permeate is stored in a tank, which is further treated through two stage RO process. Energy recovery technology is used in RO system to optimise energy consumption.

Challenges Related with Textile Waste Water Treatment

The production of textile relies greatly on dependable and effective wastewater treatment. Water is necessary throughout the manufacturing process, from the creation of fabrics and yarns to textile finishing. Various chemicals and dyes are used during the processes that produce wastewater.

These are most common challenges:

  1. Fashion industry is the second most polluting industry due to wastewater pollution from the dyeing process

  2. High volume of water required to produce garments, up to 7500L for a pair of Jeans

  3. Chemicals in dyes resistant to biological degradation and harmful to health and ecosystems.

  4. Environmental regulations on wastewater discharge are lax in producing countries.

  5. Wastewater effluent treatment plants needed to eliminate pigments, dyes, and organic matter from textile industry wastewater.

  6. Plant stages include pumping, pretreatment, chemical conditioning, and pH adjustment, coagulation-flocculation, and sedimentation.

  7. Sludge conditioning and dewatering are also necessary for sustainable Textile Wastewater Treatment.

  8. Sustainable solutions are needed to address the adverse effects of pollution from the textile industry on the environment.

Industry treatment strategy

Water and Wastewater Treatment Priorities

Textile and dyeing wastewater may combine intense colour, salts, suspended fibres, surfactants and difficult organic compounds, requiring equalisation and a site-specific treatment sequence.

Key engineering priorities

  • Flow and pH equalisation across batch production cycles
  • Coagulation, flotation or clarification for colour and suspended solids
  • Biological and advanced treatment for residual COD
  • Membrane concentration, water reuse and brine management when justified

Singapore regulatory and water-efficiency context

Applicable requirements depend on the discharge route, water use and facility operations. Review current guidance and confirm project-specific obligations with the relevant authorities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What water treatment systems are used for Textile & Dyeing?

The treatment train is selected from the incoming water quality, process-water specification and utility demand. It may include clarification, filtration, softening, RO, UF, EDI, disinfection or final polishing.

How is wastewater from Textile & Dyeing treated?

Wastewater streams are characterised and, where useful, segregated before physical, chemical, biological or membrane treatment is selected for the required discharge or reuse objective.

Can treated wastewater be recycled in Textile & Dyeing operations?

Often yes. The practical reuse applications and recovery rate depend on stream chemistry, variability, treatment reliability, risk controls and the water quality required at the point of reuse.

What information is needed to design a Textile & Dyeing water solution?

Useful inputs include flow profiles, water analyses, production schedule, target quality, discharge requirements, available footprint, utilities, existing equipment and expected future capacity.

Does World Technologies support Textile & Dyeing projects in Singapore?

Yes. World Technologies can support assessment, process design, equipment integration, commissioning and lifecycle service for suitable projects in Singapore and the wider region.
