RO Membrane CIP Cleaning Process

Step 1 – Preparation of CIP Cleaning Solution

Prepare the required acid or alkaline cleaning solution in the CIP tank using permeate water.

Step 2 – Low-Flow Membrane Flushing

Circulate the cleaning solution at low flow to displace process water and uniformly wet the membrane elements.

Step 3 – High-Flow Cleaning Recirculation

Recirculate the cleaning solution through the membrane vessels at the recommended flow rate to remove foulants.

Step 4 – Membrane Soaking

Allow the cleaning solution to remain in contact with the membranes for a specified duration to loosen and dissolve deposits.

Step 5 – Intermediate Permeate Water Rinse

Flush the membranes with permeate water to remove residual cleaning chemicals before changing to the next cleaning stage.

Step 6 – Secondary Chemical Cleaning (If Required)

Perform an additional acid or alkaline cleaning cycle to target specific scaling, organic, or biological fouling.

Step 7 – Final Permeate Water Flushing

Rinse the membrane system thoroughly with permeate water until the pH and conductivity stabilize.

Step 8 – CIP Chemical Neutralization and Disposal

Neutralize spent cleaning solutions and dispose of them in accordance with local environmental regulations.

Step 9 – RO System Restart and Performance Verification

Gradually return the RO system to service and verify membrane performance against pre-cleaning operating parameters.
